North Studio Resouce Planning Tool
A design agency based in Barcelona that covers the entire life cycle of a digital product. North offers a broad range of design services including innovation, product launch, and project optimization. Noth's clients include Massimo Dutti, CaixaBank, and Grupo Planeta among others.
Project Overview
Our stakeholder at North is currently using an app called Harvest Forecast. They specifically use this tool to assign different resources (i.e. workers) to their ongoing projects. Our stakeholder is frustrated with the app due to some issues around limited functionality which means that their resource planning needs are not fully being met.
Heuristic Analysis
We kicked off the project by analyzing the Harvest app to get a sense of what its current limitations are:
Interview Insights
Subsequently, we had an interview with the stakeholder to see her needs and goals to make a tool that she finds easy to use in her daily work-life as an operations manager.
The interview was very useful because she mentioned some of the issues we pointed out in our heuristic analysis which were excellent news for the teams as we were aligned on both ends.
Research
Benchmark
Problem Statement
North Managers need to find a way to distribute workers’ efforts into different projects
because their current solution is preventing them from maximizing the organization of their resources.
Ideation
Mid-fi & Testing
We tested our first model with our stakeholders for usability purposes and other features. During our testing, she mentioned that it would be useful to see more about the ongoing projects and employees in the calendar. Another insight was that she seemed confused about color and we told her that it was a mid-fi fidelity prototype in which we normally use grey colors.
